U. S. Officers Reserver Corps Cold Weather Flying Jacket (re-conditioned Bomb Boogie).

Dear all,

I purchased a Bomb Boogie leather jacket a number of years ago. I'm after some advice regarding identification and general information. Any assistance is enormously appreciated.

It's very well worn but is not rotting (correct me if I'm wrong). It's also worn in quite a nice way, I think. It is incredibly heavy. It's definitive feature is an image of a plane surrounded by signatures on its interior. It's unclear as to whether the signatures are related to the plane in which the...

HLB M-422?

I've been in touch with someone that says they have a HLB M-422, but I thought Monarch, W&G and Switlik were the only makers of that contract. I know that HLB made a M-422a, so what differences would set the two contracts apart? They sent me a picture of the jacket, but of course the label is missing.

Any help is appreciated.

Whatever Happened to the Goldsmith A2?

It’s been a year now, August 2018 that we were in the midst of a new discovery, the Goldsmith A2. A great deal of research and photo analysis was done by a number of people and if you were following the thread , it was impressive the way that small pieces of information were collected, correlated and corroborated and placed into a grand puzzle that soon became the Goldsmith A2 jacket. Eventually Ken from Aero produced a limited number of 25 of the jackets based on the actual contract...

My latest jacket acquisition is this Martin Lane G-1, size 42R . I replaced the cuffs and waistband, but otherwise this jacket is in outstanding condition. Does the info on the tag mean this is a 1969 C series jacket? Any guidance on how to read tag info is appreciated!

Given the variety of posts about tanning and grain I think we’re bucketing together stuff that really needs to be split out for clarity. The type of hide and how it’s processed is a big factor. Just to consider one factor ...

The flying jacket leather thickness specification values I can find list 0.025” as a minimum to 0.045” as a maximum for goatskin, cowhide, and horsehide. Actual values documented in Mr. Eastman’s excellent book, Type A-2 Flight Jacket Identification...
