Found a very nice early WW2 original IRVIN jacket and trousers set.
No real interest in Irvins.
Any Irvin collectors here?
Mine is an almost minty untreated untouched ...jacket and an ..early version , all DOT zips perfect , fleece , perfect, no holes, no balding , no patching as alway seen on Crapbay....Size approx 42” chest...Too small to wear for me.
Trousers have a bit darker fleece and are a bit larger, zips working...suspenders present. Trousers OK but not as nice as the jacket.
Any...

Hey Guys,

So this is my first military flight jacket (an aero 42-15142-P Type A-2, size 44), I came on here looking for an Irvin back at the start of the year. You guys pointed out the options and I ended up with 2 aero highwayman and an aero civilian 1950s flight jacket. Anyway I have still not pulled the tiger on an Irvin, I'll save that until Autumn when the weather starts to change (Awesome advice from all the forum members by the way).

I really like the classic look of the M422a...

Thanks,

A friend had her original A-2 jacket (as well as her bag with personnal belongings) stolen at the Warbird Beer stand at La Ferté-Alais airshow. If you see the pictured jacket anywhere ( airshow, ebay, forum, fb, whatever...), please contact In Memories Sportswear on Facebook or myself ASAP.

Quality of Avirex A-2 Jackets

Hi everyone,

I joined the forum because I recently picked up a vintage Avirex A-2 made out of horsehide online. What should I be expecting from a jacket like this? Is it up the quality of a newer Aero jacket or Schotts?

Cheers,

Julian

What do we know about these elusive jackets? I have been researching these rare jackets for a while now and have made some discoveries that are interesting. Part of what makes these research projects fun for me is it is like a walk through history. You see the photos and read the documents and get a sense of the times in which they were produced, as you piece together the puzzle.

There are just a few surviving jackets to look at to get the details that you can't see in the black and white...

I have posted this in another thread but as its about Finnish jackets I thought some might be interested in this.

The RAAF allows wearing private purchase A2's.
The RAAF regulations actually state the original 30-1415 drawing number as the standard for such jackets.
Seal Brown and goatskin
No hand warmer pockets
Velcro for patches is optional

Two companies here cater for the military customers,
The better looking ones are by Christies, the other ones are a more modern fit.

Pungent leather smell

I just thought about the smell or aroma of my jackets and I thought I'd pose the question of which leather has the most distinctive aroma. Is it Horse hide? I have an old forties Thunderbay jacket that just has that leather smell when it sits in my storage drawer and I have some other jackets that are not so much. Anybody notice this? I just love that smell of vintage jackets.

Something for the G-1 affectionados among us!!

Mystery A2 jacket

Can anyone help me figure out who made this A2 jacket? I bought it at a local hospice thrift shop. Needless to say, I was not leaving without buying the jacket, despite the missing label. Too many signs of what seemed to be a serious A2 jacket were there: throat clasp, no hand warmer pockets, Talon zipper. Looking at some A2 identification sites, I thought it might be a Bronco or a Poughkeepsie, but the condition looks too good for it to be an original A2. I checked the pockets for...

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea what contract William Holden's jacket in the Bridges at Toko Ri is? Is it a M-422a? A 55J14? An AN-6552? A jacket made by the costume department?
